In addition, Sam hits the two-minute drill with some updates from various sports including volleyball and cross country and there's the honor roll (as always) and a brief look ahead to the first week of the football playoffs (but not too much, because we'll be doing a playoff preview episode!). And, the bad three-letter word is uttered at the end...(BCS). It's a mistake Matt wishes he didn't make just before signing off.

Sam comes to you via cell phone from Austin and while the going gets rough in the opening minutes, it's still the same quality analysis you've become accustomed to. Sam and Matt discuss the week that was in high school football as well as some of the issues on the table at the University Interscholastic League's legislative council meetings, which are taking place in Austin on Sunday and Monday. As usual, there's the honor roll and some random references all the way from Tila Tequila to UH and the BCS to something called "chess puzzle solving."

Return from hiatus, Week 7 recap and more

We were off for a week (no episode on Oct. 11) but we are back!

Thanks to all of our loyal listeners for their patience as some extenuating circumstances prevented us from recording a show after Week 6.

But we are back and brought plenty of analysis with us from all the key games around the area, including the Hightower-Elkins, Memorial-Elsik and Pasadena Memorial-Pearland showdowns.

I run down most of the other notable games and of course, there's the second edition of the "Two-minute drill," the honor roll and a preview of next week's key games.

We also squeeze in some mention of UH football and we get sidetracked into some movie talk as our producer, Matt Bean, steps up to the mic to help me out.

The rust definitely shows but all the good information is still there so we hope you enjoy it!

HSFB Week 5 recap, midseason awards, new features and more

Plenty of new things to offer our loyal listeners on the latest episode of the PrepHouston Podcast First, we have some new music (in between the start and finish - apologies if you've grown tired of the intro/outro ditties but we like 'em, so those will be our staples to open and close out the show), and we also have a new segment - which I uncreatively call the "Two-minute drill." Funny thing is, I went over two minutes and - well you'll just have to listen to find out what happened but let's just say I was a bit surprised and it offered a funny moment in our very young history of podcasting. Neverthless, the same good content is there as always. We break down many of the top games from Week 5, including Westfield-Klein Forest; La Porte-Deer Park and Westside-Lamar. And of course, there is the honor roll and a short preview of next week's games. We also have a special segment where we discuss some midseason awards for area high school football players and coaches. While we don't necessarily have official such things, we discuss candidates for MVP, Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Week 4 was a week of big upsets and that was the lead topic of discussion in the sixth episode of the PrepHouston Podcast as Sam Khan Jr. of the Houston Chronicle and Ahmard Vital of TexasPrepInsider.com note the upset victories by Dekaney, Galveston Ball, Humble and Cypress Ridge.

The pair also hits some of the top key games from around the area, takes a look at some of the surprise teams in Greater Houston and even found a way to venture into Houston Cougar talk, on the heels of the football program's recent 29-28 victory over Texas Tech. Whose house?! Coogs house!!

Sam conducts an interview with Stafford coach Bill Wilson, whose Spartans are 4-0 to start the season. Jenny and Sam also touch on the top individual performances and preview the upcoming games in Week 4.

Jenny also has some interesting stories regarding her relationship with band parents and people in cow suits.

Todd Freed, host of High School Sports Live on Houston's 55, joins Sam and Jenny as the special guest co-host.
